Great opening day photo: Texeira slams one #Yankees #Yanks #MLB

Tuesday, April 20th, 2010

Ok, so Mark Texeira hasn’t been hitting all that great in April, but he hit this nice shot on Opening Day at Yankee Stadium, April 13, 2010.

In my photo below, his bat is about to strike the ball for a double.

If you like my Yankee photos, you’ll love my new book Yankee Stadium: The Final Game. Here’s the cover:

front-cover-smaller

It has many photos of the final game at the old Yankee Stadium, Sept.21, 2008. See the final out, the final home run, Rivera’s final entrance, and Andy’s final exit. And lots more.

If you loved the old Yankee Stadium (the House that Ruth built) had any great times there, or would like to remember it forever, get a copy of my book now.

On April 24 and April 25, I will be signing copies of my book at the Long Island National sports collectible show with 300 dealers and many players, including Yankee greats Mickey Rivers and Goose Gossage at Hofstra University on Long Island. Drop by, say hello, and pick up an autographed copy of Yankee Stadium: The Final Game for friends and relatives.

Exclusive photo: A-Rod finally gets his ring #Yankees #Yanks #MLB

Tuesday, April 20th, 2010

Nearly 16 years after he arrived in the major leagues, my photo below shows Alex Rodriguez finally getting his world championship ring at Yankee Stadium, opening day, April 13, 2010.

a-rod-gets-ring

Hey, A-Rod! Welcome to the same club as Roger Clemens and Wade Boggs, who also struggled for years to get a ring before getting their first ring playing as Yankees.

Also shown with A-Rod are Yogi Berra, Whitey Ford, and Joe Girardi–who have plenty of rings of their own.

The only folks not having a good time were the Angels in the background, who were eliminated by A-Rod and the Yankees at Yankee Stadium in the 2009 ALCS.

Stick around for great photos of Yankee Stadium and the Yankees. If you love the Yankees, you’ll love my book Yankee Stadium: The Final Game, which captures every moment of the last game ever played at the old Yankee Stadium on September 21, 2008.

On April 24 and April 25, I will be signing copies of my book at the Long Island National sports collectible show with 300 dealers and a bunch of baseball stars at Hofstra University on Long Island. Kudos to the Yankees! My seat upgrade #Yankees #Yanks #MLB

Monday, April 19th, 2010

I’ve criticized the Yankees a lot in this blog, for example for selling off a handicapped sign from the old Yankee Stadium and for tearing down Yankee Stadium.

I still think those criticisms are deserved.

However, I’ve got to give credit where credit is due: This winter, the Yankees actually gave me a good upgrade for 2010 to seats in a better location. I didn’t expect them to, but they did.

In 2009, I was stuck in field level section 134, I think it was, way out in left field near the bleachers. This was a far cry from the infield (NOT “between the bases”) seats I’d had in the old Yankee Stadium for 12 years.

The left field seats baked in the sun during day games, had no roof to protect me from rain during the 2009 ALDS, ALCS, and World Series, were far from home plate, and had no in-seat food service, even though they were the same price as seats that did have such service. In 2009, I baked and got soaked–all for $85 per seat!

I asked the Yankees to remedy all these faults and they did. My new seats are in right field:  Shaded, with a roof overhead and in-seat food service. They’re also closer to the Yankee dugout and home plate. They’re still nowhere near as good as the section 14 MVP Reserved seats I had in the old Yankee Stadium (the equivalent would now cost me $16,000 per season!), but they are a step up from 2009. So thank you Hank and Hal.

(I still wish you had not priced loyal, longtime fans totally out of the infield, though).

Here’s a photo I took on Opening Day 2010 from my new seats of A-rod at bat. You can see the seams on the ball in front of him.

(I did use a pretty powerful lens to shoot this). Not bad, eh?

If, as I do, you still love the old Yankee Stadium, check out my book Yankee Stadium: The Final Game. It captures everything you remember about the old Yankee Stadium, including the food stands and the trash!

Photo: Old Yankee Stadium being torn down #Yankees #MLB #Yanks

Thursday, April 15th, 2010

On Opening Day at Yankee Stadium here’s a photo what the old Yankee Stadium was doing. Those are the remains of the first base/right field stands behind the crane:

deconstruct-april

We all knew this day would come. That’s why I preserved the final game at Yankee Stadium in my book, Yankee Stadium: The Final Game. I’d rather remember Yankee Stadium the way it looked that last glorious night in September, 2008, than the above skeleton of Yankee Stadium. Soon, when it’s entirely gone, the only memory we’ll have of its last game is my book. Check it out; it will preserve the old Yankee Stadium for you forever!

On April 24 and April 25, I will be signing copies of my book at the Long Island National sports collectible show with 300 dealers and a bunch of baseball stars at Hofstra University on Long Island. Drop by, say hello, and pick up an autographed copy of Yankee Stadium: The Final Game for friends and relatives.

Now it’s on to the 2010 baseball season and the Yankees’ quest for a 28th World Championship in Yankee Stadium.

Hey Yankees: Post your 2010 game times! #Yankees #MLB #Yanks

Saturday, January 16th, 2010

It’s just 56 days until the Yankees raise their 209 World Championship flag over Yankee Stadium on Opening Day 2010. But the Yankee home schedule still doesn’t list any game times. Why?

First, it makes it hard for anyone trying to make plans for the spring or summer. Like for your kid’s birthday. Or on a holiday weekend. I’m just sayin’

Earth to Yankees: Some of us plan our lives more than 2 weeks ahead!earth-face

Second, it makes it difficult to buy or sell tickets, such as on StubHub. How can you buy tickets when you don’t know if a Thursday game might be at 1 PM, when you’re supposed to be at work.

Earth to Yankees: Some of us work 9 to 5 on weekdays!!
earth-face

Here’s a sample few games posted right now on the “preliminary schedule” at the Yankee Web site:

Note that the game times for road games in Boston, Tampa Bay, Oakland, and Los Angeles, are already posted. Hmmmm. But the Yankee Stadium game times are all TBD. It’s January 16, folks. How come those four teams can post their game times, but the Yankees can’t?

nyy-sked

OK, let’s take a look at StubHub, MLB’s official site to buy or sell tickets. Surely that would show game times; how else would they expect people to buy and sell? But lookit this:

stubsked

As Scooter Rizzuto would say, Holy Cow! holy_cow

…or maybe even….holy_cannoli

All the Yankee Stadium games are listed at 1 PM.

Come on Yankees! There’s a recession on, loyal fans are sticking with you, despite your having hiked prices and pushed us into less desirable Yankee Stadium seats last year. And not built a dome over Yankee Stadium, so that we have to put up with rainouts for the rest of our lives.

The least you can do is post your game times so we can make plans and buy/sell tickets. The least.

Get with it!

Don’t forget to check out my book on the Final Game at Yankee Stadium.

Exclusive: Topps Yankees stamps from 1962 #Yankees #MLB #NY #Yanks #Bombers

Tuesday, January 12th, 2010

Yes, I was obsessive enough to fill my Topps baseball stamp album in 1962 and keep it for lo these 48 years. Lots of Yankee Stadium stars here. I also have the 1962 Mets and all the other teams.

That’s a lot of bubble gum to chew (and quite a dental bill!).

McGwire out, Maris in (historic newspaper headline) #Yankees #NY #MLB #Bombers

Tuesday, January 12th, 2010

With Mark McGwire’s admission that he used steroids to set his 1998 home run record, Roger Maris is still the 162-game home run champion. He hit his 61st home run at Yankee Stadium On October 1, 1961. Here’s a souvenir of that time that I saved, the New York Daily Mirror from September, 1961, when Maris hit his 56th home run at Yankee Stadium.
